Nutrition Boards

My girls love to know what vitamins in their foods do certain things for their body.  Besides knowing the simple things by heart (like oranges have Vit. C), I didn't know what was in cucumbers, green beans, pears, etc. to answer their questions.

They also have difficulty eating certain foods, which of course is no new thing in the history of childhood.  Our little Raelyn has been going through an especially hard time this past year during dinner times.  She WILL NOT EAT dinner.  Even foods she previously has eaten without problems will be stubbornly refused at random times.  We've tried seemingly endless different solutions to help our girl have an enjoyable dinner time with our family.

Since our family is now eating clean (90% of the time), we are eating more vegetables and grains that are new to us.  For the past 2 FHE (Family Home Evening) activities, we've put together this nutrition board.  The girls loved cutting out the food pictures and glueing them onto the boards.

Being displayed above the table, it's always ready to read and learn about what vitamins and minerals are in our food that we're eating for that meal.  There's even a chart that explains what each vitamin and mineral does to keep our bodies healthy.

I spent a lot of time gathering the information, using the most important vitamins/minerals (not an extensive list), and the foods we eat the most.  So far it's been working great.  When someone complains about a certain item in their meal, we can read about it and see why it's so important for our body.  Then they get excited about eating it, or are at least willing to give it a try.

We have a poster for fruits, vegetables, grains, proteins, natural sweeteners, and the vitamins/minerals.
Close up of the vegetable poster.
This poster explains the functions of vitamins/minerals in our body.

Let me know if you are interested in doing something like this for your family, it's not as hard as it looks.
In fact, I'll make it easy for you and email you all the pictures and descriptions to go with it.
All you have to do is print, cut and glue it.
